Planting Trees in Sylvan Park
The Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association is actively working on a multi-year sustainability plan to maintain our established neighborhood trees, replace dying/dead trees, and plant new trees. We recognize the many benefits of maintaining a robust tree canopy within our community (including better air quality, storm water absorption, energy savings, shading of our streets, support for our wildlife, and much more). We are again working with Metro horticulturists, the Nashville Tree Foundation and neighbors to create and implement our tree plan.
Recent efforts to-date have included volunteer tree pruning events, the removal of several dead trees, and the addition of 142 new public right-of-way trees during the past four years!

The Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association will again be working with the Nashville Tree Foundation and Metro Water Services, Stormwater to plant additional trees in Sylvan Park right-of-way areas this fall! We’re anticipating the addition of 38 new trees (including a mix of 13 different species) to Sylvan Park right-of-ways.
This year’s Sylvan Park tree planting is focused on adding new street trees along sections of 45th Avenue N, 44th Avenue N, Idaho Avenue, Dakota Avenue, and 53rd Avenue N.
We're grateful to be receiving funding again this year from Metro Water Services, Stormwater that will provide for the costs of purchasing the trees, mulch, tree guards, 2 years of professional watering of the trees by the Nashville Tree Foundation, and a light corrective pruning of the trees after 2 years.
The Nashville Tree Foundation staff and Green Shirt volunteers will be on site for a tree planting demonstration and to help community volunteers install the trees. We welcome volunteers who would like to participate in this training and planting event.
